Homecoming Dance

The school postponed the dance, so the kids created their own. They went to the game on Friday night, Top Golf on Saturday morning followed by a brunch, then came home to get ready. His mom and her friends (who do this as a job) did her hair and make-up, pictures at the Arboreum, dinner at a Hibachi Grill and then a dance at Maddie's house. Phew! It rivaled Homecoming in complexity! But she had a great time.

Grand Oaks Homecoming

Sophie got asked to Homecoming! She's so excited!
Sophie and Preston rode on the Swim Team float in the Homecoming Parade
The Garter and Mum tradition. I've heard about this tradition for years. But I never understood it. Sophie made a fancy garter. Good thing she came to Hobby Lobby with me, I would not have bought enough stuff to make it fancy enough! I kind of understand it now (kind of) Braxton brought her an exquisite mum. It was personalized with all of her favorite things. Swim, baking, traveling, with beautiful ribbons and adornments. It seems like those resources could be used for a better purpose, but since it's such a big deal here, it was fun to be part of it. I did call Porter and ask him how I got out of never needing to make a mum. He said he never took a date to Homecoming. Phew! But now I'll understand the expectation if the other boys decide to take a date.

Camping Colorado Bend State Park

We were invited to go camping at Colorado Bend State Park with the Monsons, the Hansens, the Robinsons, The Roxass, the McCallisters, and several other families related to the Robinsons. It was a four hour drive, that's a long ways in the truck! We took Scout, who really showed his age by not being able to keep up on the hikes and needing to take breaks from the heat by going to the truck and turning on the A/C. There were some really beautiful pools to play in, and we camped right by the river. We also enjoyed bike riding on the trails and hiking to some waterfalls. The kids had a four day weekend, so it was nice to be able to stay and camp for longer than one night. The families took turns with the meals, so we only had to cook once.
