A rainy Halloween morning ensured we got the important things done, like carving our pumpkins. All soccer games were cancelled. Roads in Kingwood were flooded, once Doug got home safely from dropping Porter off at Region band try-outs, we all stayed put. He couldn't get home for a while because of high water on the road. Porter had to take off his shoes and run through the water to get to the school. Crazy! I have never seen it like that in Kingwood before. We skipped Luke's final soccer awards because Doug wasn't home yet and I wasn't about to go out alone in the rain when he was stranded. If there is one thing that living here has taught me, is a healthy respect for the weather. But it made for such a nice peaceful day. When the weather cleared up we went to Golden Corral for Porter's birthday dinner. And found out that he made Symphonic Region Band, first chair!! Quite an honor. He competed against kids from 23 schools and will also get to play at Region Orchestra.

Porter wanted to hunt something... anything... His dad told him he could, as long as he ate what he killed. I looked out he window (on his birthday) and asked Doug what Porter was doing. His response? You don't want to know. Turns out, Porter had killed a squirrel with his sling shot and he was out gutting and skinning the creature. That evening Porter went to a little party at a friend's house. They had a fire pit and were planning on roasting marshmallows. He told the friend's mom, I'll be right back. He returned with his squirrel. The mom was such a good sport, she let Porter cook his squirrel over the open fire. All the boys in attendance enjoyed tasting his kill. Now he's asking if he can kill another one and cook it in the crock pot... Ack!!!

Hard to believe my oldest is 14! It's so fun to have bigger kids. I am enjoying his activities and his personality. I am so proud of him! He spent the morning at Region Band tryouts (where he placed 1st chair and tried out against kids from 23 schools.) Then we went to Golden Corral for his birthday lunch (he picked it because of the all you can eat feature.) We finished up the day with trick or treating. We had a home cooked birthday dinner on Sunday with his request of hamburgers and chocolate cheesecake. It was fun to have Grandma Barbara here for it all. His friend birthday party will be in the future, when his Saturdays slow down a bit (which won't be for a while!)
