Preston's 7 year stats

Weight 55 pounds (66th %)

Preston is Seven!!!

Wow. Seven sounds so old, and in my mind, Preston couldn't be that old yet. There are so many things that I love about this kid!!!

* Preston has the best smile in the world and he's not afraid to use it! Even as he swam his breaststroke for the first time this weekend- when he heard people cheering him on by name, he started smiling every time he came up for a breath... A cute, sweet, almost bashful smile.

* Preston smiles even when the going gets rough. He had a super hard time getting through his piano recital song, even though he can play it perfectly, he just got lost... Did he let that get him down? No. Did he run crying off the stage? No. As he bowed while everyone was clapping, he gave us that winning and super charming and slightly bashful smile, everyone chuckled and clapped louder.. That's my Preston!

* Preston knows what he wants and doesn't waver. He told Grandma Barbara he wanted the lightening thief books. We weren't so sure that was the best idea. But days afterward, out of the blue he said, "I can't wait for grandma to get here with my lightening thief books." He had complete faith that she would deliver. Doug called his mom immediately and told her the books were ago!

* Preston has to work for a long time every week on his spelling words. We have to study every day for him to be able to pass the test on Friday. He doesn't love it, and sometime she stalls or is easily distracted, but he does it... Every day... The same thing goes with his piano. He practices every day, even though he'd rather not. Where he could dig his heels in and refuse, he doesn't...

* Preston is a good friend to his little brother, Ethan. I love listening to them play. I love watching them play. Ethan really looks up to Preston, and I love to witness the brother bond.

* Preston loves to play the wii. He loves to play skylanders, but also loves to play pretend just with the action figures. The figures are placed on a portal and are used for the game, but Preston uses them much more often as toys for a game he has made up. He used to love to play imagined... For years that was his game of choice, now it's the skylanders and more recently, Legos. He also loves fireball on the trampoline and he's happiest when Doug is out there playing with him.

* Preston's teacher really had to get creative this year about helping him with his distractions, using a timer helped, letting him work on the carpet helped, and sometimes just allowing him to work In a quiet environment during recess helped.

* Preston is an outside of the box thinker... He will be incredibly successful business man/entrepreneur, if he can maintain that... He doesn't see the point in unnecessary busy work. I've seen him turn in papers where he gets the first 2/3 correct, and, misses the last third. It's almost like he feels like, I already proved I can do this, why do I have to keep proving it?

Life as a deacon

Porter recently shared the following with his dad, " The hardest thing about being a deacon is holding the microphone for baby blessings.... Feel the burn... Embrace the burn... "  Then, as almost an after thought he added, "Then there was the Mealeys blessing their twins... Wow."

Such a big accomplishment! So proud of her!

Frozen concert

I peeked in on the kids to discover them in the middle of a Frozen singing concert.  They were singing all the songs... I was impressed with how many words they knew.  Even Ethan...

Preston plans ahead

A couple of months ago we went out for hamburgers.  After everyone had eaten I said, "Is anyone still hungry, does anyone need another hamburger?"  Preston answered affirmatively.  So we ordered him another hamburger.  Come to find out, he wasn't really hungry, he was just planning ahead for the lunch the  next day.... hilarious!!!

Car Pool Buddy

Luke loves the kids we carpool with.  Jade... Macie... and occasionally Matthew and Ali.  He gets excited ... crazy... a little silly... whenever they get in the car.

1st Grade Field Trip- Police Academy

I rode the bus with the kids, and had a great conversation with Mrs. Mouser about the church.  She said she finds our religion fascinating. I was able to, several months later, invite her to the primary program, based on that conversation.  Doug met us at the Police Academy for a few minutes, since it's right across the road from his office.  I am grateful to be able to accompany our kids on their field trips.
