book project

Ethan is so good about taking his own initiative. He came home, didn't say a word to me, got out his supplies and put this together all on his own.

The Comal County Fair

Kids get off school, and the town shuts down for the fair.  It was a hot one this year! We stopped at Bahama Bucks on our way home and completely enjoyed out large cool treat.

Porter's Mini-Bike

$50 well spent... a lot of fun to be had with this little, but scarily fast bike

Porter's Eagle Project

Porter built planter boxes for the rehabilitation center.  They wanted boxes they could plant flowers in, but the boxes needed to be the correct height for a wheel chair.

Bugs

It was fun while it lasted... an old man saw Sophia loving on a bunny in the Feed Store.  He offered to buy it for her.  She took him up on the offer, even though she had to go back and spend almost $80 on a cage and supplies.  She named the bunny bugs, and the kids were enamored with him.  Especially Logan.  He would go in every morning and visit the bunny, Sophia litter trained the bunny.  But bunny's poop a lot, that litter had to be changed twice a day! And they're not as cute when they get bigger.  And they smell when you don't constantly change the litter... Sophia decided to find another home for Bugs because when school started and seminary and swim and cross country, she just didn't have time to take care of a bunny.  It was a blessing, because it also showed her if she didn't have time to take care of a bunny, then she certainly didn't have time to take care of the goats she was planning on acquiring to care for so she could participate in Ag. We dodged a bullet on that one! She was signed up for the class, but when we went to the first meeting we discovered there's a lot more to goats than building a pen in your backyard.  Before the meeting my biggest concern was hiding the goat from the neighbors, after the meeting, that was the last of my worries.  That animal would need a friend, it needed to be walked daily, heat lamps and jackets were needed, meds when it got sick, vet bills, cleaning up the diarrhea if it got sick, the many shows to go to to practice for the real thing...oh boy... we both decided now was not the time to raise goats... so thanks bugs, for showing us how much work a pet can be...
